Description	:	Frank G. Hammes, oldest son of Jacob and Mary Hammes, was born at Harper, Iowa on November 26, 1879. He died from a heart attack at his home in Harlan, Iowa on February 7, 1956. His age was 76 years, two months and eleven days. He moved with his parents to Sigourney after the family home burned in Harper, and later, when he was 12 years old, the family moved to Keota where he received his education. Hammes, oldest son of Jacob and Mary Hammes, was born at Harper, Iowa on November 26, 1879. He died from a heart attack at his home in Harlan, Iowa on February 7, 1956. His age was 76 years, two months and eleven days. He moved with his parents to Sigourney after the family home burned in Harper, and later, when he was 12 years old, the family moved to Keota where he received his education. At the age of 17 he was managing his father's store at Sigourney. He married Cora B. Jones at Richland, Iowa on February 28, 1903, and the couple lived in Keota the first year of their marriage where he owned and operated a variety store. In 1904, they moved to Malvern where he assisted his father in a shoe store. In 1905, they moved to Portsmouth where he and his father went into partnership in a shoe store. He came to Harlan in 1917 where the family made their home ever since and where Mr Hammes owned and operated a shoe store in partnership with his son, Harold. He retired from active participation in the store recently. Mr Hammes was a member of the Odd Fellows LOdge No. 267 and was a long time member of the Congregational church. Surviving are his wife, Cora; two sons, Forrest of Littleton, Colorado; Harold of Harlan; and a daughter, Mrs Maxine (Gerald) Lewis of Cedar Falls. Also several grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Clara Higgins of LeMars and Helen Hammes of Terrill; and one brother, Leonard of Omaha. Funeral services were held at the Pauley funeral home with the Rev. John Paul McGee, pastor of the Congregational church in charge. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
