Description	:	Franklin Lee Clyburn, 69, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 13, 2017, at his home in Yreka after a long illness. Frank was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Clyburn, and Violet Mae Knight, both of Klamath River, Siskiyou County pioneer families. Read More	Franklin Lee Clyburn, 69, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 13, 2017, at his home in Yreka after a long illness. Frank was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Clyburn, and Violet Mae Knight, both of Klamath River, Siskiyou County pioneer families. Frank's father's family came from South Carolina by way of Texas and Oregon, where Woody Clyburn prospected for gold before arriving in Northern California. Frank had a keen interest in history and he descended from a long line of American patriots. He researched both of his parents' lineage as far back as he could go. He authored and maintained a family newsletter online, where he collected and shared his family stories with others. He told stories of a simpler time with humor and respect, giving us the chance to meet those who had gone before. As a direct result of that newsletter, he met many new cousins and other family members, where he developed long lasting friendships. He was a graduate of Yreka High School, and served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Frank was always interested in his community as well. He once served on the Grenada School Board after he had long been an administrative assistant in the schools of Siskiyou County. He worked in the forestry industry while raising his children as a single parent. He loved the outdoors and he was in many ways a modern mountain man. He became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Yreka late in life, where he discovered the deeper meanings of life. It was a highlight in his lifetime. He was a member of a men's fraternity that he truly enjoyed, the E Clampus Vitus Humbug Chapter #73. He always had time for the less fortunate; he drove many miles to visit people in jails and prisons bringing hope to them and sharing his own love of God. He would pick up hitchhikers who needed a ride, and would often give his last dollar to someone he'd just met because he thought they needed it more than he did. In short, Frank was among the best of men. He was an influential member of the AA community, including the inmates in some northern California prisons. He was known to some as a "Ninja Angel." He had 27 years of sobriety as of Nov. 5, 2016. He leaves a sister, Lynda Mae Clyburn Thompson of Kenai, Alaska; two daughters, Joie Kari Clyburn of Wrangell, Alaska, and Ronnie Jayme Lynn Lee of Kenai, Alaska; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren and will be greatly missed by them and his many friends throughout the community. He was predeceased by a son, Woodrow Guyles "Woody" Clyburn, and an infant brother, Woodrow Wilson Clyburn Jr. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka at 11 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2017, conducted by Girdner Funeral Chapel.
