Description	:	Franklin Lewis Sayre Franklin Lewis Sayre was born July 31, 1913, in Cottageville, Jackson County. His parents were the late Isaac Allen and Anna Bennett Sayre. Frank was the oldest of 13 children (from oldest to youngest}: Elizabeth Hawkins, Katharine Sayre, Pauline Barnette and twin Paul Sayre, Jeanette Winter, Geraldine Higginbotham, Warren Sayre, Maxine Witt, Donald Sayre, Bobby Sayre and twin Billy Sayre and Lawrence Sayre. Read More	Franklin Lewis Sayre Franklin Lewis Sayre was born July 31, 1913, in Cottageville, Jackson County. His parents were the late Isaac Allen and Anna Bennett Sayre. Frank was the oldest of 13 children (from oldest to youngest}: Elizabeth Hawkins, Katharine Sayre, Pauline Barnette and twin Paul Sayre, Jeanette Winter, Geraldine Higginbotham, Warren Sayre, Maxine Witt, Donald Sayre, Bobby Sayre and twin Billy Sayre and Lawrence Sayre. In 1933, Frank graduated from Union District High School in Cottageville, where he was salutatorian of his graduating class. While in high school he met Ada Ruth Sayre. They were married on August 7, 1938, and celebrated nearly 73 years of married life together before her passing on June 13, 2011. Frank was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local for more than 60 years, as well as a Jackson County Historical Society member. He helped build the WVU Medical Center Hospital at Morgantown and the B.F. Goodrich Rubber Plant at Institute. He was a resident of Dunbar for 62 years and an active member of Dunbar First Church United Methodist (now Dunbar United Methodist) for more than 60 years. When the church was destroyed by fire, he offered his full-time service as a volunteer, alongside others, to rebuild the facility. In 2001 Frank and Ada Ruth moved to Edgewood Summit in Charleston, where he was a resident for 11 years. In September 2012, due to declining health, Frank moved to SweetBriar Assisted Living in Dunbar. Frank lived a full and happy life, serving those around him, whether at home, at church or in the community. He loved, he gave. He built, he restored. He taught, he encouraged. After retirement he was an instructor of sheet metal work for 10 years at Ben Franklin Technical School, where Union Carbide sent some of their sheet metal workers to be trained by Frank. Frank departed this life on June 24, 2013, at the age of 99, and is survived by his youngest sister, Maxine Witt of Red House. Though not blessed with children of his own, Frank was like a father to two of his nieces, Lou Ann Barnette Platt of Melbourne, Fla. and Donna Sayre Neumann of Greenville, S.C., whom he would refer to as his girls. In Frank's declining health, his great-niece, Jean Ann Goodman, also became as a daughter to him. There will be no memorial service, at Frank's request; however, a booklet titled "REFLECTIONS: A Tribute to Franklin Lewis Sayre," is available to family members and those who request it.
