Havick for fifty years a well known and highly respected citizen of this community, occurred at the Bisgard hospital Saturday afternoon, January 18, at 4 o'clock, following a brief illness with pneumonia and pleurisy. His age was 52 years, 4 months and 4 days. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist chruch in this city Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. S. Grant Lewis in charge. Franklin Mercilen Havick, the oldest son of Andrew and Adelia Havick, was born in Lincoln Township, Shelby County, Iowa, and died at the Bisgard hospital in Harlan, Saturday January 18, 1930. He was taken ill at his home and it was soon apparent that he was a very sick man. He was brought at once to the hospital and all that medical skill could do was done to stay if possible the severe attack of pneumonia which had overtaken him. But on Saturday toward the close of the day the disease proved too much for his weakened condition and the angel came and claimed his immortal soul. Mr. Havick has spent most of his days in Shelby County. He was married September 15, 1901 to Miss Essie Bryan. To this union ten children have been given, Mrs. Esther Davis was the first member of the family to pass her reward on January 16, 1927. He leaves his faithful wife, six sons, Claude, Harold, Glen, Franklin, Elmer, Everet and three married daughters. Mrs. Gladys Klitgard, Mrs. Mable Davis and Mrs. Helen Christensen, his aged father, four brothers and three sisters, besides three grand children and a large number of relatives and friends to morn his loss. Mr. Havick was an honest, upright citizen, a good neighbor and a loving husband and father. Himself and sons have been real companions and together were making plans for the future in the work of farming in which they engaged. When a boy he was baptized in the Luthern Church. But in his early years he attended the Methodist Church in Harlan. Later he and his family have been connected with the church and Sunday school at Tennant. The entire community feel the loss of this good man and for the wife and stricken family, they would express their deepest sympathy.
