Burch, aged 85 years, of Masonville, Anne Arundel county, Md., was found dead on the Baltimore and Annapolis Short Line tracks at First street in Brooklyn about 5 o'clock yesterday morning. The body was mangled beyond recognition, His limbs were cut off and his arms, head and body crushed. just how the accident occurred is not known, but it is supposed that he was killed by a freight train passing along this point between 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning. The body was discovered by Charles Garrett, of Brooklyn. He called Patrolman Joseph Ward, and the officer in turn notified Coroner Thomas B. Horton, of Curtis Bay. When Dr. Horton arrived on the scene he had the remains removed to the jail at Brooklyn, where they laid until 12 o'clock noon before the body was recognized. In the meantime several men identified the body as a man by the name of Wales. They were en route to notify the family of Wales when indecision caused them to turn back. mr. Edward McGarrity came on the scene about 12 o'clock and immediately recognized the body as that of Burch. As further proof Mr. Philip T. Burch, the father of the dead man, was summoned, and he identified the remains by a mole under the right ear. Burch was a carpenter. He was seen that Saturday evening about 6 o'clock in Curtis Bay quite under the influence of liquor. It is also said that he was seen to get off the last car coming from the city, about 1 A.M. Sunday, and start along the railroad track in the direction of his home. Whether he tried to board the freight train and fell under it or laid down on the track and went to sleep is a mystery, and it will probably never be solved. Burch is survived by a widow (Mrs. Adeline Burch) and five children. Coroner Horton, after an investigation deemed an inquest unnecessary, and gave a certificate of accidental death. Undertakers Armstrong, Denny & Co. prepared the body for burial and took it to his home, at Masonville, yesterday afternoon.
