Diamond, 87, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa, with members of his family present. Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday at Anthon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vickie Steffes officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion McNiff Post 389 of Anthon. Franklin Owen Diamond was born March 16, 1921, in Anthon, the son of Frank and Lenore (Healless) Diamond. He attended Anthon High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 8, 1942. He was extremely proud of his military service during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery and earned two Purple Hearts for wounds he sustained in battle near Bertraige, France, on Dec. 18, 1944. He married Betty Wilma Perryman on Jan. 8, 1946 in Sioux City. Wilma passed away Dec. 4, 1998. He worked various farms and construction jobs in his early life, but will probably be remembered for driving the school bus and being a rural mail carrier. He was a sales representative for Monument Sales of St. Cloud, Minn. He also was a caretaker of Oak Hill Cemetery in Anthon. He was a member of the American Legion McNiff Post 389, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a retired member of the National Rural Carriers Association and Anthon United Methodist Church. He always said he was born 100 years too late. He loved to hunt, fish, trap and camp. He also enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He is survived by four sons, James and his wife, Sally, of Hinton, Iowa, Jerry of Glendale, Ariz., Marvin and his wife, Linda, of Sioux City and Duane and his wife, Penny, of Cherokee, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Jane and Bill Schwarz of Jefferson, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Delores Diamond of Anthon and Don and Bonita Diamond of Pleasant Hills, Iowa; two sisters, Roxie Slater of Glendale, Ariz., and Dorothy Chinn of Pierson, Iowa; other family members; and many good friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Lyle and Larry; a great-granddaughter, Kaydence Foster; and a sister, Marilyn Reed.
