OBITUARY: Frank Pirtle Rites Thursday The body of a well-known Sullivan man was found in a wooded area two miles southwest of the city Monday afternoon, the victim of a gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted. Authorities said the body of Frank W. Pirtle, 49, of 205 West Giles Street was discovered by two teen-age girls about 3 p.m. just off the Ferree Springs Road. Terry Boston, 13, and Bonnie Skinner, 14, both of Sullivan, discovered the body after noticing the car parked nearby. Investigating officers said Mr. Pirtle died of one gunshot, deer slug wound, a 16-gauge shotgun, owned by Mr. Pirtle was found by the body. A witness reported hearing a shot about 1:30 p.m. in the area. County Coroner William Tennis listed the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head and the time of death at 1:30 p.m. Investigating were the sheriff's department, city police, state police and Mr. Tennis. Mr. Pirtle had been a carpenter, and was employed as a school bus driver for 12 years. He was a member of the Shelburn Masonic Lodge and served as a Boy Scout official for ten years. Surviving are five sons, Lloyd, Indianapolis, Morris and Donald of Plainfield, Ronald, with the U.S. Navy at Norfolk, Va., and Ned, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn McCammon, Griffin, Ind.; a brother, Eugene, Sullivan R1; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Bowen, Carlisle, Mrs. Norma Olson and Mrs. Ruth Rose, both of Sullivan; three grandchildren; and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pirtle, Sullivan. Services will be held at the Tennis Funeral Home Thursday at 3 p.m., the Rev. Ben Merold officiating with burial in Center Ridge Cemetery.
