STAVA DEATH SUFFERED SHORT ILLNESS Had Been a Resident of Butler County Over 63 Years Bruno, April 3 - Mrs. John F. Stava passed away at her home at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, March 29, following a stroke of paralysis suffered the previous morning. She was 88 years, six months and 17 days of age. Funeral services were held Saturday morning from the home to St. Anthony's church, Rev. F. J. Kopecky celebrating the requiem mass at 10 o'clock. The pallbearers were James Wittera, William Kozisek, Joseph A. Kozisek, Joseph Stava, F. A. Novacek and Robert Stava. Interment was in St. Anthony's Catholic cemetery beside the grave of her husband, who preceded her in death December 8, 1938. Members of the Rosary society, of which she was a member for 39 years, formed an honorary escort in the funeral procession from the home to the church. Frantiska Mensik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Menshik, was born at Prispo, Moravia, September 12, 1850. In 1875 she emigrated to the United States with her parents, who located near Fremont. On January 22 [sic], 1876, her marriage to John F. Stava was solemnized in Fremont. They settled on a homestead adjoining what is now Bruno, on the north, later moving to Bruno. Mr. Stava was a pioneer merchant, of Bruno, his store being the first building erected in the village. Four sons and three daughters, two of whom died in infancy, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Stava. They are John R. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Frank A. of Lincoln, Edward J. and Ralph A. of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. J. V. Markitan of Bruno. There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Kate Corry of Omaha, is the last surviving member of the Menshik family. Members of the family present at the funeral wre Mr. and Mrs. John R. Stava of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and son, Edward of Le Mars, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Stava and daughter, Theresa, of Lincoln; Dr. Ralph A. Stava, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Markitan and daughter, Nettie, of Bruno; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Supencheck, of David City; and Mrs. Kate Corry of Omaha. One son, Edward J., of Los Angeles, Calif., was unable to be present. Mrs. Stava possessed a splendid character and was kindly, generous and tolerant, practicing the teachings of her Saviour in her everyday life. Her numerous friends and neighbors have cause to remember the many good deeds with which her life was filled. She had an ardent love of flowers and it was always her pleasure to give every friend who called blossoms of plants to carry home. She was devoted to her family and they in turn gave her loving care and affection. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved.
