PROMINENT FARMER AND STOCKMAN, OF STRUBLE VICINITY, DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Death called Franz Ruhland, well known resident and prominent farmer of Plymouth county, at the family farm home near Struble Tuesday, February 14, after a lingering a llness at the age of 77 years. Mr. Ruhland suffered a stroke over a year ago and for the past thirteen months had been confined to bed. Franz Ruhland was a native of Germany and was born in Pressina, December 31, 1856. When a young man of twenty-eight years he emigrated to America and shortly after landing located In Plymouth county. He engaged in farming in Lincoln township where he lived until 1902 when he bought a farm in Sec- tion 9, Elgin township, where he established a fine country home and made a success in diversified farming. For the past seven years he made his home in Struble. A short time ago in his long illness he was taken to the old home farm where his child-ren assisted the mother in caring for him and alleviating the tedium of long and protracted illness. Mr. Ruhland was united in marriage with Frances Plendl of Lincoln township tn Le Mars in 1892. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and five children: Norbert, Frank, Katherine and Joseph, of Struble, and Mrs. Henry Goebel, of Elgin township. There are three grand-children, Rose and Joseph Goebel and Edward Ruhland. Mr. Ruhland was a fine citizen, a self respecting man, a good neighbor and friend, tolerant of the rights and opinions of others, a loving husband and father. The funeral will be held this morning at 9:30 in St. Joseph church at Struble, Rev. J. B. Greteman officiating and interment made in the Struble cemetery. The pallbearers are old friends and neighbors of the departed man: John DePgan, James Deegan, Jos. Remp, John Roderpoone, John Schlesser and John Garding.
