Description	:	Unity, June 21 – Fred A. Whitehouse, 74, long prominent in business and banking affairs in this town, died at his home here this morning, following an illness of six weeks. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. He was a native of Vassalboro and his parents moved to Unity when he was nine years old. Whitehouse, 74, long prominent in business and banking affairs in this town, died at his home here this morning, following an illness of six weeks. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. He was a native of Vassalboro and his parents moved to Unity when he was nine years old. In his early years, he passed some time in the West and returning here, he established a pants factory. Later he became owner of the Central House, which he operated for 25 years. With other townspeople he established the Maplewood Lumber Company in 1899 and this business still operates in the pulpwood and lumber trade and maintains general stores at Unity and Thorndike. Mr. Whitehouse was railroad station manager here for 16 years, was for a time general manager of the Unity Telephone Company and was influential in having electric power brought into town. At the time of his death, he had been retired for some years, but remained a director of the Maplewood Lumber Company and of the Waterville Savings Bank. He was a member of the Masonic bodies, including St. Omer Commander of Knights Templar of Waterville. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Rose May (Reynolds) Whitehouse; three sons, Edgar and Robert of this town and Fred H., a Deputy United States Marshall in Portland; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Geddy of Hilton Village, Virginia.
