Fred was born on Sept. 15, 1912, in Omaha, Neb., to Rosario and Nettie (Carpagnano) Abramo. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Woodrow and West Junior in Sioux City. As a young adult, he traveled around to many states while he boxed. Fred was a featherweight champion. When he returned to Sioux City, he worked at Armour until it closed. That is where he met and eventually married Verma Wolfe. Fred then worked at the Sioux City Journal for many years. He enjoyed gardening and raising tomatoes. He loved to watch boxing matches on television. Fred also loved to be with his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his many friends. Survivors include two daughters, Norma Pedersen and her husband, Bernard and Debbie Duncan, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Travis Duncan and his fiancee, Beckie Boyle, Melissa Topete and her husband, Rafael, Angeline Duncan and her fiance, David and his children, Olivia and Nickalus, Michael Pedersen, Richard Pedersen and his wife, Mary and Lori Bass and her husband, Ronald; great-grandchildren, Kendra Duncan, Emily Duncan, Aubrey Duncan, Alma Topete, Araceli Topete, Yovani Topete, Trenten Duncan, Taylor Miller, Brandon Miller, Jordon Miller, Lindsay Bass, Samuel Bass, Sarah Bass, Emily Bass and Vanessa Pedersen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verma, on Sept. 24, 1993; four brothers, Sam, Ross, Tom and Frank Abramo; and two sisters, Grace McGinty and Mary LaFluer
