Description	:	Fred B. Winter was a son of Fred Burkett Winter, Sr. and Sara (Moore) Winter. He died after suffering a long illness. He was educated in Orangeville schools and learned the barber's trade there in 1895, which he did for 54 years until ill health caused him to retire. He married Nina Stocks on Feb. 12, 1912. She survives along with four sisters: Mrs. Belle Hartzell, Mrs. Sadie Balter, Mrs. Nettie Bradley and Miss Hazel Winter; and two brothers: George and Cyrus. He was a friend to children who portrayed Santa Claus for many years. A living memorial continued this week in the wake of his death. He was 75 years old, but youthful in spirit. He was a good barber. At one time he was in partnership with his brother, Charles and with Floyd Speedling., then Ivan Moon. Fred's hobby was always children, big and little, spoiled and unspoiled. Even after retiring, many children still insisted that Fred cut their hair. He was a natural as Santa Claus, loving his annual Yuletide role. About ten years ago, Fred sustained a severe heart attack and took things easy for a year or so. He was working again, until about five years ago when a blood clot formed in his leg so that could no longer work. He became an invalid much of the past months.
