Description	:	Fred Earl Case, 90, of Redfield, SD died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Peter M. Utecht will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be Friday, from 1 to 8 p.m., at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com) Fred was born May 20, 1921, in Interior, SD, to Roy and Edna (Weaver) Case. He attended country school and graduated from Spearfish High School in 1937. Fred enlisted in the US Army in 1941 serving in the European Theatre and also in Africa and Italy during WWII. In 1945, he married Hazel Schmidt in Crandon, SD. He worked in Wolsey, SD for 20 years at NW Public Service before moving to Las Vegas and working at Nevada Atomic Energy Testing Site until his retirement in 1986. In 1996, he and Hazel moved to Redfield, SD where he lived until his death. He was very active in the Messiah Lutheran Church, and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Fred loved his wife dearly and also the time he spent serving his country. After the war in Iraq started, Fred at the age of eighty called the US Army and volunteered to go to Iraq and be a driver if he was needed. Fred enjoyed wood working and reading. "Uncle Casey" will be remembered for always treating his many nieces and nephews as if they were his own children. Fred is survived by one brother Jack of Plankinton, SD; one sister Dorothy Henley of Pahrump, NV; and a sister-in-law, Marvine Roeber of Redfield, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, and four brothers; and his life-long companion Felix the cat.
