Description	:	July 19, 2020 - New information is available for Fred's wife, Alice. I believe her mother is buried in Shaul, but I need to research this further to verify. Research and updates are pending. I have been able to find very little information about Fred or his wife Alice. They are shown in the 1930 Census for Ottumwa, and his birth place is given as Washington. In the 1940 Census for Ottumwa, his birth place is given as Oregon. In the 1940 Census for Ottumwa, his birth place is given as Oregon. Fred is buried alone, and I do not know exactly who his wife Alice was or what became of her after Fred’s death. Fred's death certificate may be seen in ancestry.com. His place of birth on that certificate was given as Eldon, Oregon. The informant of his information was his wife, Alice. ----------------------------------------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” February 22, 1947: Fred E. Crawford, 1141 Orchard street, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 12:10 p.m. today. He was 67 years old. Mr. Crawford was a laborer at John Morrell & Co., and had been so employed for the past 20 years. He was taken ill last May, and had not been able to work since. He was hospitalized Friday. He is survived by his wife, Alice, and by five stepsons. The body is at the Carroll Reece funeral home awaiting completion of funeral arrangements. “CRAWFORD SERVICES,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” February 24, 1947: Funeral services for Fred E. Crawford, 67, retired employ of John Morrell & Co. who died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday at Ottumwa hospital, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carroll Reece funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Harold Roberts of the First Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
