Koons, 45, Phoenix, Ariz., who died of a heart attack Friday while at work in the maintenance department of the Salt River public works project in Arizona. He was born May 8, 1924, at Valley Falls, the son of Walter A. and Lillie Booth Koons. He attended Valley Falls schools. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 and received a Silver Star for gallantry while in service with the Third Army in Europe. He lived in California about 20 years before he moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1964. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars at Fortuna, Calif. Survivors include a twin sister, Mrs. Frieda Fischer, Monroeville, Pa., two other sisters, Mrs. Ruth Kyle and Mrs. Jessie Mae Montgomery, both of Valley Falls; and three brothers, Everett Koons, Norwood, Mo., Earl Koons, Kansas City, and Thaine Koons, Phoenix, Ariz. Grahem-Herbers Post No. 3084 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Valley Falls, conducted graveside services at Valley Falls cemetery. The Rev. William E. Hurtig officiated at the service, Mrs. George McCracken was organist. Casket bearers were Harry Joe Evans, Edward Koons, Edwin Ritchie, Ernest Lonard, Roy Allen and Neil Schoonover.
