Fred Forsythe, Jr. Fred Forsythe, Jr., age 92, of Sanborn, Iowa, and formerly of Lauren, Iowa, died on February 6, 2014, at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital at Sheldon, Iowa. Fred Forsythe, Jr. the son of Fred and Maude (Post) Forsythe, was born in Plover, Iowa, on March 6, 1921. He lived his youth in the Plover community and Fred was a 1938 graduate of the Plover High School. When Fred was in high school, he worked for 3 years for Gene and Earl Kerns. Fred faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from September 21, 1942 until his honorable discharge on March 15, 1946. In April of 1946, Fred was united in marriage to Mildred (Bunny) Buchanan at the United Methodist Church in Laurens. Fred was employed with the M & JR Hakes for 20 years in the warehouse and for 25 years in the business office as an accountant, retiring in March of 1986. Bunny passed away in October of 1986. On November 7, 1987, Fred was united in marriage to Oneta L. Horsman at the United Methodist Church in Laurens and they were blessed with 26 years together. Freddie and Oneta enjoyed the next 17 winters in Arizona. In 2005, they sold their home in Arizona and continued to reside in their home in Laurens. Freddie and Oneta moved to Sanborn in March of 2008 where they have made their home at the Prairie View Manor Independent Living. Fred was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church where he had held various church offices throughout the years. He had also served on the Laurens Municipal Light Board. Fred was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, serving one year as Master Mason and 14 years as the secretary. He was also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star serving in the capacities of Associate Patron and Worthy Patron a number of times. Freddie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing a round of golf many times with Joe Halterman, Cecil Hannish and Darrell Oleson. Freddie had achieved 5 holes in one throughout his golfing years. Freddie is survived by his wife, Oneta of Sanborn, Iowa; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred (Bunny); sister, Esther Thoms; brothers: Roy, Vernon, Glenn, Raymond, and Russell. Everyone who knew and loved Freddie will remember him for his good nature and his kindness and generosity to everyone.
