Hamrick, 68, of the Chesnee highway, died Saturday night at 9:50 o'clock at the Boiling Springs, N.C., Clinic following an illness of three years. ~ Mr. Hamrick, a prominent landowner and retired soil conservation worker, was born in Cleveland county, North Carolina, the son of James Franklin and Jane Jolley Hamrick. He attended Mars Hill College and the Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute and graduated in 1927 from Clemson College in the top 10 members of his class. He did graduate work in agricultural economics at North Carolina State College in Raleigh. His work as a soil conservationist was in Coosa county, Alabama. ~ He was a member of the Grassy Pond Baptist church where he taught a men's Bible class for a number of years, and also served as a deacon of the church. While in Alabama he was a member of Rockford, where he taught a class for seven years. ~ Mr. Hamrick held several positions with the Department of Agriculture in the midwest, and in North Carolina and Georgia. ~ Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Grassy Pond Baptist church by the Rev. E. Gray Jones, the pastor, the Rev. Edley Hicks, the Rev. C.C. Matheny and Dr. T.C. Holland. Interment was in the Grassy Pond cemetery with the Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge. ~ The pallbearers were Broadus, J.C. and Woodrow Hamrick, Jack Phillips, Warren Bonner and Ray Clary. ~ The honorary escort included the deacons and former deacons of the Grassy Pond Baptist church, Dr. J.C. Hall, Lamar McCraw, Lyman Sparks, J.H. Black, J.B. McCraw, J.F. Mabry, G.N. Morgan, J. Conrad Jones, A.J. Foster, T.A. Petty, V.O. Vinesett, Dr. Washburn and S.T. Leazer. ~ Mr. Hamrick is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Phillips Hamrick; two sons, Lamont Hamrick, of route 2, and Carl O'Neil Hamrick, of the home; two sisters; Mrs. John Hamrick of Mooresboro, N.C., route 2, and Mrs. Belton Horton, of route 2; two brothers, A.W. Hamrick, of Mooresboro, N.C., and Gould Hamrick, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a stepbrother, Darwin McCluney, of Charlotte; and one grandchild. (Transcribed by Randi Powell)
