Funeral services at the Gilman Community Church, Rev. Richard Gamble officiating. Organist was Ron Rainey. Burial in Prairie View Cemetery. He was the son of Thomas W. and Mary Phipps Anderson. He was born May 12, 1899, in Grassy Creek, N.C. He moved with his family to Newburg and attended school there. On September 11, 1926, he was married to Gertrude Gummert in Des Moines. They lived in Newburg until moving to Gilman in 1942. Mr. Anderson was a longtime businessman in Newburg and Gilman, where he operated a car garage and worked as a mechanic. While in Newburg, he also drove a school bus for 17 years and ran a threshing and corn-shelling business during the Depression. He was a member of the Gilman Odd Fellows Lodge and the Moose and Eagles lodges in Marshalltown. He served on the Gilman Telephone Board. Surviving are his children, Dorothy Buschbom of Marshalltown, Carroll "Bud" of Gilman, Larry of Canton, Michigan, and Joan Kyle of Gilman; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, and six sisters. Added 01 Feb 2019
