Description	:	Fred "Sonny" H. Legare, Jr., of Darlington and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away February 27, 2010 in Florence. Born November 21, 1925 on Sullivans Island, Mr. Legare was the eldest son of Frederick H. and Henrietta Moore Legare. Upon graduation from General William Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, he enlisted in the Naval Air Force Reserve, serving his country during World War II. His second marriage... Read More	Fred "Sonny" H. Legare, Jr., of Darlington and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away February 27, 2010 in Florence. Born November 21, 1925 on Sullivans Island, Mr. Legare was the eldest son of Frederick H. and Henrietta Moore Legare. Upon graduation from General William Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, he enlisted in the Naval Air Force Reserve, serving his country during World War II. After the war, he returned to his beloved island and married his first wife, Kathryn Ferguson, by whom he had three children; Fred H. Legare, III, Charles Alan Legare, and Michele Legare. His second marriage was to Evelyn Hughes Warrick, and he welcomed her son, Dr. Kenneth Warrick into his life. Mr. Legare enjoyed over 40 years experience as an estimator for several commercial contractors in the Charleston area before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, of Sullivans Island, under the Watchcare program at Bethea Baptist Church in Darlington, and a member of American Legion Post 136 in Mt. Pleasant. An extraordinary man who loved life, he enjoyed fishing, telling stories about growing up on the island, the sun-filled days catching shrimp for supper, and the smell of salt air. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Mr. Legare is survived by his second wife, Evelyn Hughes Warrick Legare; his sons, Fred H. Legare, III of Ravenel, Charles Alan Legare of Florida, daughter, Michele Legare Sullivan and husband Jeff of Mt. Pleasant, step-son, Dr. Kenneth Warrick and wife Diane of Tennessee; grandchildren, Frederick (Drake) Legare, IV of Charleston, Rachel Sullivan Sawyers and husband Jeff, Megan Sullivan, Jordan Sullivan, Mark Legare Alexander, all of Mt. Pleasant, step-grandson, Dr. Todd Warrick and wife Pressley, three step-great-grandchildren, all of Sumter, and a sister, Doris Legare Dayhoff of Mt. Pleasant. He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Kathryn Ferguson Legare, and a brother, Louis N. Legare. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
