Meier, 57, whose body was found hanging in a barn at his farm, two and one-half miles southwest of Calamus, Wednesday, according to Judge W. A. McCullough of Clinton, who was called. He was educated in the Scott county schools and was married 32 years ago to Hilda Husen. Mr. Meier was a member of the Grand Mound Lutheran church. His wife died June 7, 1943 and he was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister. Surviving are four sons, Ralph, chief gunner’s mate in the navy, who is an instructor at Great Lakes, Grover and Donald, both of Calamus and Vernon of Grand Mound; two daughters, Mrs. Luella Burzlaff of Grand Mound and Lucille at home; seven grandchildren; his step-mother, Mrs. Louis Meier of Davenport; five brothers, Henry and Rudolph, both of Davenport, Louis of Maysville, Arthur of Glenwood and Charles of Sunbury; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Ahrens of Davenport, Mrs. Margaret Speth of Donahue, Mrs. Viola Martin of Walcott and Miss Mildred Meier of Davenport and a step-sister, Mrs. Marie Frick of Dixon.
