Read More	LAST RITES FOR FRED JAY CLIFF FUNERAL HELD AT UNION TOWNSHIP PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IS LARGELY ATTENDED Funeral services for Fred Jay Cliff were held from t he First Presbyterian church of Union township Saturday, September 30, 1933, at 2:30 o'clock. A short service was held at the home of his sister , Mrs. Oliver Pratt , at 2 o'clock. Mr. Cliff had been ailing for about a year but was not thought to be in a serious condition until Wednesday when he was taken to Le Mars to the Sacred Heart hospital. His disease, dropsy, seemed worse than at first thought and he passed away Thursday morning at 7:30. Fred Jay Cliff was born March 17, 1886, In Elkhorn township and lived his entire life In Elkhorn and Union townships. He died Thursday morning, September 28, having attained the age of 47 years, 6 months and 11 days. Albert Cliff, his father, died twenty-three years ago Christmas day and was buried in Poster, Nebraska. His mother, Mrs. Mary Anne Cliff, nee McCartney, died a year ago August 8, and was buried in the Le Mars cemetery. He leaves to mourn his departure three brothers and two sisters, Bertha, Mrs. Oliver Pratt, of Kingsley; Albert Cliff, of Kingsley; Hazel, Mrs. McKenzie, of Dorsey, Nebraska; James Cliff, of Kingsley; and Ernest Cliff, of Bayfield, Wisconsin, besides a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Cliff was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Union township, having joined two years ago after the series of services held by Rev. W . H . Thompson, of Des Moines. A short service was held at the home of Mr. a n d Mrs. Oliver Pratt at 2 o'clock. A song by a mixed quartet. Misses Ruth Eyres and Ruth Hoyt and Wm. Hoyt and Russell Thompson with Miss Phyllis Morton at the piano. The pastor, Rev. Harold A. Smith, read from the scripture and offered a short prayer. Services were held at the township at 2:30 o'clock. The quartet sang three selections, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." "Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah," and "Abide With Me." The pastor, Rev. Harold A. Smith, used as his subject for the sermon, "Life Here and Hereafter." Text Romans 6:23 and John 8:51. The flowers bearers were Mrs. Fred Featherstone, Mrs. Calvin Eyres, Mrs. Alfred Sampson and Mrs. Bert Badgerow. Pallbearers were Paul Parry, Fred Featherston, Harry Manning, Arthur Pratt, Al Sampson and Ernest Rainboth. Interment was made In the Le Mars cemetery at the side of the grave of his his mother.
