He attended the schools of that old university city, joining the church by the rite of confirmation at the age of 14. For three years after his graduation he found employment in the business of his father, eventually engaging himself in the activities of his native city. Emigration to America took place in 1882 where employment and a home was furnished by his aunts in Ohio. the year 1883 found him in Boonesboro, where for a period of nine years he was occupied in work in a coal mine and brick yard. Subsequently he located on a farm in Harrison township in 1894 and in Jackson township in 1910. In 1915 he bought an acreage on South Marion street from which he moved. The deceased was united in marriage to Rosie Krueger of Baden, Germany, in 1883 who passed away nine years later. Two sons, Charles and Harry Crouse of Boone survive both parents. He entered holy wedlock with Rosie Brucker in 1893 (sic) who survives together with children; Mrs. Kolb, Mrs. T. Ashford, Miss M. Crouse, Mrs. C. Chance and Hanmond Crouse.
