Fred was born April 11, 1927 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Fred and Catherine (Waldorf) Schlotfeldt. He graduated from DeWitt High School and served in the Army in Korea during the end of World War II. Fred worked as a mechanic for Peters Motor Company, DeWitt, for 25 years and farmed for 41 years. On May 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to Madonna McMahon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. He was a member of the Teal Hunting Club, which he helped establish in the early 1960’s. Fred was a family man and an avid outdoorsman. He loved anything to do with his family and enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, boating and skiing. Surviving are his wife, Madonna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and William Cook, DeWitt, and Leora and Jay Claeys, Welton; a granddaughter, Catherine Cook and a grandson, Noah Claeys; a sister, Berniece Schlotfeldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Art, Russell, Ralph, Carl and Louis and five sisters, Helen Schlotfeldt, Florence Schlotfeldt, Gertrude Shontz, Kathryn Fields and Margaret Seitz. The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Vigil service 7 p.m. Funeral liturgy 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Feldpausch, Bruce Telleen, Francis McMahon, Larry Delay, Kenneth Schlotfeldt and Don Hesse. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale McMahon, David McMahon, Gary McMahon, Ronald McMahon, David Delaney and Ed Grace. Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 of DeWitt, will conduct military rites.
