His involvement included the following organizations: Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW), Vertias Lodge No. 392, A.F. & A.M. since 1942, Order of the EAstern Star, member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Pacers, 4-H leader, Farm Bureau (president and treasurer), Audubon County Fair Board (treasurer since 1967), township trustee, Lions Club, Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion, Audubon School board (president from 1973 to 1982), Audubon County Cancer Society (president and vice-president), Elderbridge Commission for Aging, Audubon Chamber of Commerce (president in 1971), and chairperson of the Audubon County Community Betterment Association. He received the Audubon Community Service Award in 1989." "Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents; and his brother-in-law, Henry Walters." "Surviving include his children: Roger and his wife, Betty Searls of Greensboro, NC; Charlotte Searls of Phoenix, AZ; Paul Searls of Omaha, NE; 4 grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth Searls; his sisters: Louise and her husband Ted Molgaard; Flay Walters, all of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends." Services held Thursday, Aug 13, 1992, 10:30 P.M. First United Methodist Church, Audubon, Iowa. Dr. Emmanuel Tabelisma, officiating. Organist Donna Lansman. Casket Bearers were Pete & Laura Testroet, Louis & Mary Lee Lauritsen, and LeRoy & June Nielsen.
