Mr Meyer was taken ill Monday afternoon about 5 o'clock. His brother, George Meyer, was called from Newton and arrived last night. A daughter, Mrs J.B. Keough and children, Donald and Rita, came yesterday from Clarion. They returned home this morning but Mrs. Keough expects to come back in a day or so. Jan 9, 1933 - Carroll Daily Herald - Fred Meyers, a resident of Carroll for 55 years, died yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at St Anthony hospital where he taken last Tuesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at Ss. Peter and Pauls church where requiem high mass be celebrated by the Rev Father Lambert Schenkelberg. Burial will be in St. Peter and Pauls cemetery. Fred Meyers, son of Mr and Mrs John Meyers, was born at Newton Jasper county, April 25, 1863 and came to Carroll in 1878. He went the work for George L McAllister and Sam Todd in their restaurant and later was employed by J.H. Schmidt. When the rural mail service was established in Carroll in September 1901, Mr Meyers was assigned to route NO 4 and for eight years serviced the partrons on that route using a team of mules which became a familiar sight. Later he was the sexton as the city cemetery and resigned to enter the employ of the Great Western railway company. He went to work for the company April 15, 1922 as flagman on the Main street crossing and was faithfully performing his duties when he was taken ill a week ago today about 5 o'clock. Mr Meyers was united in marriage April 7, 1891 to Miss Mary Arntz at Carroll. To this union six children were born: Mrs A.H. Manneman (Eleanor) of Carroll and Mrs J.B. Keough (Henrietta) are the only two surviving with their mother. Frederick and Louise died in infancy, George died 19 years ago and Dorothy in 1930. He leaves 10 grandchildren. Other survivers are a brother, George Meyers and four sisters, Mrs Anna Larimer, Mrs Ella Allen, Mrs Elizabeth Frith, all of Newton; Mrs Dean Schields of Portland, OR. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr Meyers was of a retiring nature, a lover of his home and devoted to his family. He was a man of few words but thoroughly dependable and faithful in discharging his duties. He had been in poor health for about a year but was able to be at his post until taken ill a week ago. He gradually declined and died well fortified with the last rites of the Catholic church. Jan 13, 1933 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. J.B. Keough, her sons, Frederick, Charles, and Harold, and Mrs. Laura Sievers returned Wednesday to their homes at Clarion. They attended the funeral of Mrs. Keough's father, Fred Meyer. Mrs. Keough had been staying with her mother for several days. Mrs. John Frith, sister of the late Fred Meyer, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. George Meyer, and son, Vernon, who attended the funeral of Mr. Meyer, returned to their respective homes in Newton Wednesday. Contributed by Dodie - Eleanor Dorothy Meyer married Anton Hubert Manemann 9-26-1911. She was born 1-18-1892 on Carroll, Carroll, Iowa and died 4-15-1960 in Carroll, Carroll, Iowa. Also Henrietta Meyer married John Benjamin Keough on 1-19-1914. She was born 1895 in Carroll, Carroll, Iowa and died 7-16-1931 Oelwein, Fayette, Iowa.
