Read More	Fred Wallace Shaw, one of the best known young men of Emerson and vicinity, died in the Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, December 1, 1934, following an illness of a few days of blood poisoning. An ardent and expert basketball player, he received a bruise on his knee in the first game of the season, that, while it did not show up much at first, slowly developed into the dread cause of his death. He was attending to his usual school work up until Tuesday of last week, apparently felling all right, although he dod not participate in the last game played by the Emerson high school team on which he was a stellar player. Wednesday he became worse and a doctor was summoned Thursday. He developed such a high temperature that his condition became alarming and the following morning he was taken to the hospital where everything possible was done to relieve him, but the illness had taken too firm a hold and he was unable to withstand it. The news of his passing came as a terrible shock to his friends in Emerson, few of whom realized that he was dangerously ill, for he was one of the most prominent and popular young men in the school and town. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Emerson, of which he was a loyal member, and was one of the most largely attend ever held there. School was dismissed for the day and the school and pupils attended in a body, their great sorrow paying eloquent tribute to the life of this lad whom they beloved. Masses of beautiful flowers testified to the loving remembrance of relatives and friends, school and church. Music was furnished by a quartet. Rev. L. E. Ripley, the pastor conducted the services and preached the sermon, paying marked tribute to the splendid Christian character of the young man and his influence to church, school, and community. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery. The pall bearers were Glenn Gilliland, Roland Edie, Norman Fields, Dale Ballain, Bobbie Hogged, Billy Ripley, and fellow members of the high school basketball squad, of which he was a leader. His coach and well beloved teacher, Mr. Ridenour, walked at the head of the casket. The second team squad acted as honorary bearers. The following girls of the senior class acted as a guard of honor; Merna Ellis, Leona Johnson, Muriel Peugh Juanita Edi, Enid Snodgrass, Flo Huntsman, and Dolores Davis. Mrs. C. F. Barns, Mrs. Wilbur Morrison, Mrs. Earl Crawford, and Mrs. Richard Croften had charge of the flowers. Malvern Leader, December 6, 1934, page 1
