Norman Is Dead; Active In Masonic Work Fred W. Norman, 79, above, of Ottumwa Route 6 died at 4:15 a.m. today at Ottumwa Hospital following an illness of one month. He had been an employe of John Deere Ottumwa Works for 26 years prior to his retirement in 1951. He was the son of George H. and Sarah Meeker Norman and was born at Eddyville Dec. 2, 1885. He had been a resident of Wapello County for the past 53 years. He was a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church and was a past master of Empire Lodge No. 269, AF & AM in 1957. Also he was a member of the chapter, council and commandery of local Masonic bodies. He was a member of Kaaba Shrine in Davenport. His marriage to Crystal Gilyeaert took place Nov. 14, 1912 in Wapello County. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, E.H. Norman of Ottumwa Route 6, Lt. Cmdr. Fred Norman Jr. of U.S. Navy in Adak, Alask and Max E. Norman of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lila Ann Clark Feb. 1, 1963 and by four brothers and three sisters. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. --------------- "Norman Funeral," From "Ottumwa Courier," June 16, 1965, Page 11: The service for Fred W. Norman, 79, of Ottumwa Route 1, who died Tuesday afternoon at Ottumwa Hospital will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Ash of the Willard Street Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service. Masonic services will be held at the funeral chapel Friday at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Paul Ruby, Dewitt Edmundson, Morris Rosenman, Edgar Lovell, Elmer Carr and Gerald McGee.
