Description	:	Fred W. Schroeder, 86, of Lincoln died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his Legacy Estates home. Fred was born Aug. 24, 1923, near North Bend to Edwin and Edna Schroeder. He grew up in Fremont. He was the proud drum major at Fremont High School, where he graduated in 1941. Following high school he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until the end of the war. Schroeder, 86, of Lincoln died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his Legacy Estates home. Fred was born Aug. 24, 1923, near North Bend to Edwin and Edna Schroeder. He grew up in Fremont. He was the proud drum major at Fremont High School, where he graduated in 1941. Following high school he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until the end of the war. His ship, the USS Mustin, was involved in action throughout the Pacific during World War II. Following his service, Fred attended Central Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C., where he trained as an electronics technician. After moving back to Fremont, Fred and Lila operated a radio and TV repair shop. In 1964, they purchased Lincoln Maytag Company and moved to Lincoln. In 1967, he joined the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company, becoming general manager of the cable TV department. When LT&T sold the cable TV division, Fred took over the telephone directory department. He retired from LT&T in 1988. He is survived by: sons, Steven of Little Rock, Ark., and Hal; daughter-in-law, Laurel; and granddaughters, Allie and Andie, both of Austin, Texas. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lila Fern Woods Schroeder of Albion. The funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 O St., in Lincoln. There is no visitation. Private family burial will be in Fremont. Printed in the Fremont Tribune, Feb 10, 2010.
