Description	:	Freda C. Allestad, 92, of Plains passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home. She was born on April 27, 1912 in Big Timber, the daughter of Osmund M. and Kristine F. (Berland) Larson. Freda grew up and attended country school in the Big Timber area. She completed a correspondence course through the Washington School of Art and received her diploma in 1937. Freda married Thorvald Allestad on November 29, 1938 in Big Timber. Allestad, 92, of Plains passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home. She was born on April 27, 1912 in Big Timber, the daughter of Osmund M. and Kristine F. (Berland) Larson. Freda grew up and attended country school in the Big Timber area. She completed a correspondence course through the Washington School of Art and received her diploma in 1937. Freda married Thorvald Allestad on November 29, 1938 in Big Timber. In 1943 they moved to Plains where they purchased property and founded the Allestad place. Besides raising a family of four, Freda put her share of efforts on the ranch also. She spent all of her years there without electricty. After the kids were grown, she made her way back to town, where she resided in her later years. In 1983 Freda took a trip to Norway. She was enthusiastic about traveling to different places. Freda had a passion for gardening. It was something she continued for most of her years. She also enjoyed reading, picking berries, and fishing. Her faith was very much a part of her life as she was a long-time member of the First Lutheran Church of Plains and the last surviving charter member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thorvald, a brother and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, Lars Allestad of Plains and Theodore (Mary) Allestad of Everett, WA; two daughters, Florence (Leon) Anderson of Plains and Elizabeth (Vernon) Tintinger of Snyder; grandchildren, Kenny, Roger, Kristina, Thorvald, Andrew, Judy, Tammy, Toby, Tracy, Timothy and Sam; and 19 great grandchildren. A funeral service was held Saturday, October 2 at the First Lutheran Church in Plains. Burial followed at the Plains Cemetery. Bunch-Toews Chapel of Plains was in charge of arrangements.
