He married Donna LaRue May 4, 1952 in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1992. He married Sandra Durbin May 15, 2008, in Ottumwa. A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He married Donna LaRue May 4, 1952 in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1992. He married Sandra Durbin May 15, 2008, in Ottumwa. A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Lowenberg Bakery, Vaughn Motors and owned and operated Fred's Wrecker until retiring in 1994.After his retirement he enjoyed transporting veterans to the VA Hospital in Knoxville.He was a life member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was a member of Cooties and served on the firing squad. Surviving is his wife, Sandy; a son, Terry (Teresa) Benge of Ottumwa; a daughter, Penny (Doug) Johnson of Ottumwa; four stepchildren, Cole (Amy) Durbin, Travis (Melinda) Durbin, Paul (Crystal) Durbin and Terri (Robert) Molina, all of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Terry Shawn Benge and Cory "Buck" Brown, both of Ottumwa; two granddaughters, Kari Davidson and Melissa Ware, both of Ottumwa; two stepgranddaughters, Nikki Mobley and Jennifer Reynolds; 16 stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
