Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Linton, with the Revs. Jason Haas and Stephen Wisthoff officiating. Fred, son of Christian and Barbara (Riedlinger) Heer, was born Aug. 20, 1908, near Emmonsburg, N.D., in Emmons County, and was raised on the family farm near Beaver Bay. He attended Emmonsburg School No. 1, where he completed the eighth grade. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Linton. On Nov. 15, 1932, he married Caroline Rosina "Rose" Goehring, Linton. They began their married life on rented land and eventually purchased their own farm west of Temvik in 1949. They actively farmed there until the late 1980's. In November 1996, Fred and Rose moved to Bismarck, where Rose passed away on Feb. 28, 1997. Fred resided in the Primrose Apartments in Bismarck, until 2001, when he moved to Fargo, and resided in the Waterford Memory Care Apartments. Recently, he suffered a stroke and moved to the Villa Marie Nursing Home in Fargo. Fred loved his chosen work and was a good farmer. He took pride in making his land productive and neat. He was skilled at construction and built many of the farm buildings on his farmstead. He enjoyed people, visiting, hunting and fishing, and was a successful trapper. He served on township, school, elevator and church boards for many years. He was devoted to his family and was a good neighbor. Fred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Fred F. and Madeline Heer, Bismarck; his daughter, Violet J. L. Bienek, Fargo; six grandchildren, Cody C. Heer, Fargo, Dacian and Jean Ann Bienek, Crookston, Minn., Michael and Stacy Bienek, Warren, Minn., and William "Bill" Bienek, presently serving with the 142nd Battalion of the N.D. National Guard in Iraq; and one sister, Freda (Mrs. Ferdinand) Kiemele, Linton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose; six brothers, Jim, Jake, Bill, Christ, Henry and Albert Heer; and one sister, Carrie Kiemele. Memorials are suggested to hospice, the First Baptist Church of Linton or the donor's choice.
