Read More	Fred Ahrens, 82, Former Resident Takes Own Life Shoots Himself Sunday Afternoon At Home of Son in Laurel Fred A Ahrens, 82 years old, ended his life by shooting himself in the right temple with a rusty pistol about 3:30 Sunday afternoon in the garage at the rear of the home of his son, Fred Jr, at Laurel. Mr Ahrens, who have lived in Marshalltown for many years had been staying with his son recently and had been despondent for some time relatives said. Most of the family went to Marshalltown Sunday afternoon but the aged man didn't want to go and was left at home. Others in the house heard the shot and rushed him to the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown where he died a short time later. The aged man had been despondent ever since his wife died a few months ago, Cornoner R R Haupert was told, and although his children had attempted to make a home for him he had brooded constantly. No inquest will be necessary the coroner decided. Mr Ahrens was born Jan 22, 1864 in Brunswick, Germany and came to America in 1865, settling at Plano, Ill. Ten years later he moved to Marshall county settling at State Center where on Nov 1, 1877 he married Miss Lena Riemenschneider. They made their home in Marshalltown for 20 years prior to Mrs Ahrens death Dec 9, 1935. He is survived by two sons, Fred of Laurel and Ernest of Marshalltown, three daughters, Mrs L E Noble of Rhodes, Mrs Charles Richards of Melbourne and Mrs A Moore of Peoria, Ill., and four sisters, Mrs Hannah Hennis, Mrs Gusta Sinclair, Mrs Mae DeLane and Mrs Bertha Kennedy, all of Sandwich, Ill. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr Ahrens was a member of Hanner lodge No. 123, I.O.O.F. of Marshalltown.
