Description	:	Frederick Alva Ruark, a retired Garfield County farmer, died of cardiac arrest Tuesday at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Spokane. He was 75. He was born March 8, 1919, at Pomeroy to Alva and Nettie Ruth Shawley Ruark. He attended the Ruark Rural School and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1936. He farmed in the Valentine Ridge area, where his family farm is, and was one of the first farmers in the county to grow bluegrass for commercial use. Read More	Frederick Alva Ruark, a retired Garfield County farmer, died of cardiac arrest Tuesday at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Spokane. He was 75. He was born March 8, 1919, at Pomeroy to Alva and Nettie Ruth Shawley Ruark. He attended the Ruark Rural School and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1936. He farmed in the Valentine Ridge area, where his family farm is, and was one of the first farmers in the county to grow bluegrass for commercial use. He retired in 1983, and his son is now the fifth generation to farm there. He married Betty J. Stalleop Marh 5, 1944, at Pomeroy and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in March of this year. He was a member of the Pomeroy Masonic Lodge, the Pony Punchers Club, the Mayview Grange and the Pomeroy Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting with his son, camping, fishing, being outdoors and working in his garden. Survivors include his wife at Pomeroy; a son, Lee E. Ruark, and a daughter, Jill E. Frederick, both of Pomeroy; a sister, Susan Phay of Clarkston; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Ruark, and a sister, Nellie Blauert. The family suggests memorials be given to Garfield County Ambulance in care of Lisa Gingerich or Memory Manor Nursing Home in care of Maurene Allen at Pomeroy, Wash., 99347. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Richardson-Brown Funeral Home at Pomeroy. The Revs. Jonathan Cortese and Howard Neal of Pomeroy will officiate.
