Hanse Dies in Hospital - Mr. Hanse, a long time resident of rural Milford, Iowa. Frederick Andrew Hanse, 54, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 15, 1964 at Spencer Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted a few hours before. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Funeral services were held Saturday in the First English Lutheran Church at Spencer, IA with the Rev. L.W. Steffen officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Clay Co., IA. Mr. Hanse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olaus Hanse, was born in Morris, MN, January 20, 1910, and has lived in this area since he was four years old. He and the former Marie Lambertus were married June 20, 1934, near Milford, IA. Survivors include his wife, Marie; four daughters, Mrs. Norma (Ivor) Reuter of Spencer, IA, Ramona and Bonnie Hanse of Milford, IA and Johanna at home; one son, Martin Hanse of Council Bluffs and one grandchild. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary (Guy) Dodd of Clear Lake, IA, brothers, Ray Hanse of CA, LeRoy Hanse of Garner, IA, and Everett Hanse of Peoria, IL. --------------- Fred Hanse was born Jan. 20, 1910 in Morris, Stevens Co., MN. He was the first of six children born to Olaus and Mary (Dunkin) Hanse. In 1915 the family moved to Spencer, Clay Co., IA, where he attended city schools, starred in athletics and graduated from high school in 1929. He was confirmed in April 1924 in the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. He attended Grand Island, NB Business College for six months. On June 20, 1934 he was married to Gertie "Marie" Lambertus of Milford, IA, they farmed in Sioux Township east of Spencer for 15 years and had five children. In 1955 they quit farming and moved to her parent's farm near Milford where he became employed as an assistant grower at Woodcock Floral, Inc. in Spencer. Fred was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer and held many offices and served on many committees. He was also the first chairman of the "Parker, Clay County Historical Society and chairman of the Clay County Civil War Centennial Commemoration. Fred was the compiler of the "Hønsi-Hanse Geneology - Records of the Descendants of Hans Gulbrandsen Hønsi in America", "The Descendants of Barnabas Clark of Clinton County, IA" and "The Descendants of Neils Neilson Westby and working on the Descendants of Erland Halvorson at the time of his death. Besides his wife, Marie Hanse, he is survived by daughters, Mrs. Norma Reuter, and Mrs. Ramona Panska, all of Spencer, IA, Miss Bonnie Hanse and Mrs. Joanna West both of Imperial, Missouri; son, Martin Hanse of Council Bluffs, IA; mother Mrs. Mary (Guy) Dodd of Clear Lake, IA; brothers, Raymond Hanse of Manito, IL, Leroy Hanse of Garner, IA, and Everett Hanse of Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by father, Olaus Hanse in 1941; brother, James "Martin" Hanse in 1924; and sister, Mrs. Viola Cowan in 1961. The Hønsi name was Americanized by the family to Hanse.
