He died at his home in Onawa, Iowa at five o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 13, 1934 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 6 days. He had been ill from paralysis for the past four years and the rest that remaineth to God's people became his after a full measure of perfecting discipline. Mr. Oldis was the second son of Frederick A. and Mary Ann Oldis, who emigrated from London England in the year 1852. They moved into the Monona County, Ia. in 1854 established a general store at Arcola. Later they moved to a farm near the site of what is now Castana, where they lived many years until their death the father passing away in 1892 (1897) and the mother in 1908. The two sons and three daughters who together with the subject of this obituary comprised the immediate family of these pioneers have all passed to their reward, leaving memories of lives well spent and work well done. Frederick A. Oldis married Miss Maria Hurst on February 13, 1877 at Kennebec, Monona County, Ia. To them were born seven children, all of whom mourn the death of their father. Mr. and Mrs. Oldis settled upon a farm five miles northwest of Castana, Iowa where they lived for forty-eight years upon retiring from the farm in 1?20 they removed to Onawa, where they have since made their home. Thos is now the first break in the family circle. Surviving Mr. Oldis are his widow, Mrs. Maria Oldis and the seven children; They are Thomas F. and George W. of Golva, N.D.; Mrs. Anna M Lindsay, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Margaret E. Petty of Arlington, S.D.; Arthur and Mrs. Mabel Carroll, of Sioux City; and Charles of Hornick, Iowa. There are also fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great -grandchild. Funeral services were held at the home and at the Methodist Episcopal church in Onawa on Thursday afternoon Feb 15 in charge of the pastor, Rev Thos. Batho. The music was furnished by Mrs. Donald Rose, Miss Ada Mae Woerner and Coad Batho; Miss Edna Boulden at the piano. Burial was at the Castana Cemetery. The pallbearers were Fred Knudsen, Turin; W.B. Dennis of Turin; P.A. Harris of Turin; M.J. Beers of Castana; P.L. Blakely of Onawa; James Brown of Onawa. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs.Fred Knudsen of Turin, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Bennis of Turin; Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Harris and son, Paul, Mrs. Chas Erlandson of Turin; Mrs. Peter Knoff, Castana; Mr. and Mrs. Putwright of Sioux City; Mrs. Wm. Soule of Hinton, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Carroll and Mrs. Louis Carroll of Sioux City. (I confirmed that they were from Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois. This is a long ways from Chicago, as mentioned above in the obit.)
