Description	:	GRAND ISLAND — Frederick Charles “Freddie” Adelung, 75, of Amherst died Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with the Rev. Bill Heermann officiating. Read More	GRAND ISLAND — Frederick Charles “Freddie” Adelung, 75, of Amherst died Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with the Rev. Bill Heermann officiating. Freddie was born Nov. 19, 1939, at home in Amherst to Fred and Theresia (Kaps) (Simshauser) Adelung. He grew up northwest of Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1957. On Nov. 21, 1958, Freddie enlisted in the U.S. Army and did basic training in Fort Carson, Colo. After basic he served at Fort Lewis, Wash., for three years, three months and three days. Upon arrival home from military service, he began farming along the Wood River with his father. Upon his father’s death Freddie took over the family farm raising irrigated corn, soybeans and Hereford cattle. He took great pride in operating his farm without government assistance. Shortly after he returned home from the Army, Freddie purchased a red convertible Jaguar. It was with his great generosity that each year he offered his Jaguar to the school to escort the homecoming royalty around the football field. Many of his nephews and nieces were offered the opportunity to drive the “Jag” during the homecoming proceedings. His nieces and nephews have fond memories of visiting the farm and seeing Freddie play with his dog, Yogi, and ride a black stallion he called “Jake.” After he retired from farming, Freddie enjoyed watching University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball on TV and playing cards with family and friends. He wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to play pitch or poop on your neighbor. And as many friends, family, neighbors and Tractor Supply Co. know, Freddie spent considerable time and money feeding local wildlife (raccoons, squirrels, birds, turkey, etc.). Freddie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Calvin and Gordon Simshauser; sisters, Audrey Condon and Vivian Juhl; and nephews, Clair Juhl and Kent Simshauser. He is survived by sisters, Janette Hunt of Amherst, Phyllis Nelson of Broadview, Mont., and Edith Schriner of Kearney; 21 nieces and nephews; and even more grandnieces and grandnephews.
