Visitation at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home. Fred E. Johnle was born March 12, 1917 to Fred & Elizabeth (Miller) Johnle in Walworth County near Hoven, SD. He grew up and attended school in this area. He graduated from Java High School and attended Business College. He entered the U. S. Army in March 1942 and served in North Korea and European Theatre. He was honorably discharge in 1945 and later joined the Army Reserves and acquired the rank of 1st Sgt. where he served until retirement in 1966. He worked one year after WWII for the city of Isabel, SD managing a municipal store. On July 15, 1946, he married Evelyn Haux at Bowdle, SD. Later making their home in Aberdeen where he worked for the SD State Employment Security Office for thirty years as an Employment Interviewer & Veterans Employment Representative in Aberdeen. Beginning in 1986, they spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. Evelyn died October 2, 2004. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW, American Legion, 40 & 8, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, & Shrine. Fred loved fishing & music. He played several musical instruments; his favorite being the accordion. He played horn with the Elks, Shrine, State Legion, and King of the Gyps Band. Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Gertrude Quast, Menno, SD; two nieces Kathy Ham, Bowdle, SD, and Susan Kogan, Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Sam; sister, Olga; identical twin sons, Richard & Robert.
