Schumacher, Jr. Battle Creek Fred E. Schumacher, Jr., 74, of Battle Creek and formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in Battle Creek Health System. He was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Burlington to Frederick E. and Mabel (D’Water) Schumacher, Sr. He attended Laurel Grove and Union City High Schools. He farmed for about 10 years and was then employed at the Oliver Corp., Clark Equipment Co., and other companies. He then was employed as the head mechanic for the Calhoun County Road Commission in Battle Creek, retiring in 1989. He married Violet Funk on Oct 14, 1944 in Coldwater. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Gerald Schumacher of CA.; a daughter, Barbara Page of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Frances Garrett of Arvada, CO.; and a sister, Irene Miller of Union City. Preceding him in Death were sisters, Arlene Fisk and Mildred Bell. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Sunday at Putnam Funeral Home, Union City. Services: 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Hubert Johnston officiating. Burial: Burlington Cemetery. Memorials: To the family.
