Mr. Stavenhagen had lived near Victor since 1872, and for the last fourteen years he made his home with his son, Henry. Mr. Stavenhagen was known for his kindness and honest dealings in business and he will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends. Frederick Stavenhagen, only son of Jacob and Maria Stavenhagen, was born near Stavenhagen, in Mechlinburg, Germany, on January 8, 1843. At an hear age he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was affiliated with the Lutheran church until a few years ago. His boyhood and youth were spent in and around Stavenhagen, the town named for his ancestors and which still bears his name. For three years he was employed by the government in the postal service department in Hamburg, Germany. In the spring of 1869, at the age of twenty-six, he came to the United States, locating in Muscatine, Iowa. He was married on June 12, 1871, to Dorthea Maschmann. To this union were born three sons, two of whom died in infancy. He moved to Iowa county in 1872, locating in Lincoln township. He lived on a farm in Hartford township from 1881 to 1905, when he moved to Victor. After the death of his wife, November 8, 1921, he went to live with his son, Henry F. Stavenhagen, with whom he made his home until the time of his death. He passed away at the age of ninety-two years, two months and six days. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and his five sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his son, Henry and wife and their three children, Mrs. Irene Jarrard of Eagle Grove, Glenn Stavenhagen of Cedar Falls and Lois Stavenhagen, at home. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in Victor with Rev. McBride and Rev. O. J. Fix in charge. Appropriate music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wahl, Mrs. Henry Wahl and Horace Wahl. Pallbearers were Ferd Warnks, Louis, Henry, George, Carl and William Maschmann. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
