Fred was born in 1929 in LeClaire, to Ralph and Vivian Criswell. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Fred was born in 1929 in LeClaire, to Ralph and Vivian Criswell. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Fred served during the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1954 as an aircraft mechanic. On December 28, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ann Sheridan at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport. Fred worked at Alcoa for 30 years in the truck repair department, completing his time there as a unit supervisor. After retirement, Fred managed the apprenticeship program at Alcoa, in addition to operating a saw sharpening and small engine repair business. Fred was a member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department for nearly 30 years, the last seven as its chief. He loved aviation and building airplanes. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association since 1964 and enjoyed volunteering every summer at the EAA convention. He dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a joke for everyone and a desire to make people laugh. Survivors include his wife, Ann; children, Martha (Scott) Pfitzenmaier of Bettendorf, Matt (Stacey) Criswell of Windsor, Missouri, and Mindy (Dan) Claypool of St. Louis; grandchildren, Craig, Haley, Luke, Maddie, Troy, Abby, Morgan, Alison, Kara (Paul), Kyle, and Kurtis; and great-grandchildren, Broady and Adalyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark, and a sister, Velma Leffert.
