Description	:	Fred Wood, 78, formerly of Hudson, died peacefully with his wife by his side on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 10 at Hudson Lutheran Church with Rev. Lori Marty officiating. Frederick John Wood was born December 18, 1931 to Frederick "Wren" and Gertie (Speelman) Wood on the family farm in rural Hawarden, IA. Frederick John Wood was born December 18, 1931 to Frederick "Wren" and Gertie (Speelman) Wood on the family farm in rural Hawarden, IA. He graduated from Hudson High School and attended Black Hills State where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Education. Fred entered the U.S. Navy on July 31, 1951 serving his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1955. Fred was united in marriage to Twyla "Jeane" Porter on June 7, 1958 in Emerson, IA. Together they started there home in Omaha, NE where Fred worked for the Nebraska School for Deaf and Mutual of Omaha. Fred then worked for various insurance companies through out the U.S. until retiring back to Hudson. During his retirement Fred drove school bus for the Alcester-Hudson School District and transported vehicles for Heartland Motors. Fred and Jeane moved to Sioux Falls in August of 2009. He was an active member of the Hudson American Legion where he served as Commander for Hudson and Lincoln County. Fred enjoyed fishing, playing ball, golfing, his service in the Navy and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife, Jeane; 1 daughter, Michelle (Robert) Lambert of Yankton; 1 son, Michael (Jodell) Wood of Hudson; 6 grandchildren: Jon (Mindy) Burt of Hawarden, IA, Bryan Burt of Sioux Falls, Rebecca (Grant) Kooima of Rock Valley, IA, Jennifer (Nathan) Vis of Hudson, Megan (Brett) Blankespoor of Doon, IA and Baernt Wood of Hudson; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ramona Schlup of Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Hermanson.
