Description	:	Fred and Alma Lewis were two of the nicest people that I have ever known. They were both faithful Christians, and Alma taught Bible School and Sunday School for many years. Fred and Alma were both committed to winning other people to the Lord, and their faces absolutely glowed when they shared their faith with others. They loved to travel, and Fred particularly enjoyed his hobby of lapidary, polishing and making jewelry from the stones they acquired on their travels. Fred and Alma were both committed to winning other people to the Lord, and their faces absolutely glowed when they shared their faith with others. They loved to travel, and Fred particularly enjoyed his hobby of lapidary, polishing and making jewelry from the stones they acquired on their travels. In particular, I remember a draw-string tie that he often wore, featuring a large turquoise stone that he had polished and set. Fred also wore a watch with a band set with his turquoise stones, and Alma frequently wore a turquoise ring that Fred had made for her. They were both an absolute joy to be around, always taking an interest in others and what they were doing. They are missed greatly by the many people who were privileged to know them. There was an obituary published for Fred in "The Ottumwa Courier." He was born at Kirkville Station and was the son of Edward and Vella Tony Middlesworth Lewis. He married Alma Marie Lumsdon on February 14, 1933, in Ottumwa. Fred graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1930. He had farmed, been a grocer, and had worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 25 years, retiring from the experimental department in 1976. He was a member of Northgate Alliance Church, Gideon's International, and Full Gospel Businessmen's Association. He was survived by his wife Alma, two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two sisters (living persons - names withheld for privacy). He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Christina Marie Lewis and a sister Hazel Moffitt.
