Description	:	Frederick "Fred" Pugh, 84, of 521 Mountain Road, Afton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Hospice House in Charlottesville. He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Afton, a son of the late Walter and Ida Lowe Pugh. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Fred was a longtime member of Rodes United Methodist Church, and cleaned the church and cut grass in the cemetery for 40 years. He worked as a velveteen cutter at Crompton-Shenandoah for 28 years. Read More	Frederick "Fred" Pugh, 84, of 521 Mountain Road, Afton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Hospice House in Charlottesville. He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Afton, a son of the late Walter and Ida Lowe Pugh. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Fred was a longtime member of Rodes United Methodist Church, and cleaned the church and cut grass in the cemetery for 40 years. He worked as a velveteen cutter at Crompton-Shenandoah for 28 years. He was an avid hunter in his younger days, enjoyed gardening and adored birds. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Fred was very beloved by his community. He met his wife, Elfriede Kraus, in Vienna, Austria, when he was in the Army. It was his first and only love, and lasted 61 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four wonderful children, Wilhelmina and husband, Charles Crickenberger, of Forest, Alfred Viktor Pugh, of Afton, Gregory Allen Pugh and wife,Tracy, of Afton, and Anthony "Tony" Charles Pugh and wife, Sheila, of Crimora; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and his many special friends. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Rodes United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #340. Pallbearers will be his sons and Jeff Crickenberger, Casey Brooks, Ernie Lee, Tommy Harvey and Tim Merrick. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence. McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
