Read More	Wenatchee World - July 11, 2005 Frederick Russell Burnett, 85, of Monitor, and a life-long Wenatchee Valley resident and banker, died Thursday afternoon, July 7, 2005, at Highline Care Center in East Wenatchee. Mr. Burnett was born on October 19, 1919, in Cashmere to Russell and Nellie (Mustell) Burnett. He grew up in Peshastin and graduated from Peshastin High School in 1937. During high school, he worked at Bill Town's Grocery in Peshastin and began his banking career as a messenger for the Wenatchee Valley Bank in Wenatchee. He later became a bookkeeper for the bank which became Sea First and in 1938, was advanced to P & R Teller. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was stationed in London, England and Belfast, Ireland as a Communications Officer. He received the American Theatre Ribbon EME Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Five Overseas Bars, and the Victory Medal. On December 12, 1945, he married W.A.C.'s Captain Myrtle Carol Smith in Paris, France, and following his honorable discharge as a Major, they returned to Wenatchee, where he continued working for the Wenatchee Branch of Sea First. A son, Fred R. Burnett, Jr., was born to them in 1949. Fred continued working with Sea First and retired as assistant manager in 1969. On October 15, 1969, he married Faye R. Gibson in Wenatchee and step-children, Ross and Jody Gibson, joined the family. While with Sea First, Fred served four temporary duty tours in Alaska; three with Correspondent Alaska National Bank in Fairbanks and with the Small Business Administration in the disaster loan program following the 1964, earthquake. Knowing a Wenatchee firm that dried fruits could help in saving the bank files that were flooded in Fairbanks, Fred instigated the saving of 99% of files processed. After retirement from Sea First in 1969, Fred became Executive Vice President of Central Washington Bank, retiring in 1984. On January 6, 1983, Fred married Virginia May Armstrong in Wenatchee and step-daughter, Donna Armstrong Johnson, joined the family. Mr. Burnett was active in his community. He was President of the Wenatchee Chiefs and the N.W. League of Professional Ball Clubs; a member of the Post #85 Peshastin American Legion and a member of the Wenatchee Presbyterian Church. He was a past Chamber President and member of the BPOE Elks Lodge, where he coached the ritual team. He became a Lt. Col. while in the Air Force Reserves of the 9442nd Air Reserve Squadron. Mr. Burnett also did recruiting for the Air Force Academy. He enjoyed bowling and ran an apple orchard on weekends, as well as starting "Ernie's Grocery" in Wenatchee with his brother-in-law, Ernie Smith. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of the family home in Monitor; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Fred and Dr. Charlene Burnett of Jackson, Tennessee; step-daughters, Jody (Gibson) LeNoir and husband Ed, of Brier, Washington, and Donna (Armstrong) Johnson of Mill Valley, California; step-son, Ross Gibson of Missoula, Montana; brother, Ben Burnett and his wife Pat of Peshastin; sister, LaRue McKellar of Wenatchee, and sister Betty Mae and husband Elwood Dart of Moses Lake; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Nellie Burnett, his wife Carol, his wife Faye, and his aunt Maye Byrum. A Funeral Service of commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Frederick Russell Burnett, will be conducted at 11:00 Tuesday morning, July 12, 2005, in the First Presbyterian Church, 1400 S Miller, Wenatchee, with Pastor Paul Pankey officiating. The casket will remain closed following the service. Friends wishing to make visitation may call at Ward's Funeral Chapel Monday between 12:00-8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Also, visitation will be prior to service time at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Peshastin cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial in Fred's name to the First Presbyterian Church, 1400 S Miller, or the NCW Council of Camp Fire USA, P.O. Box 1734, Wenatchee, WA 98801. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
