His funeral service was Friday, December 9th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with interment and military honors following at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Larsen, 96, Sioux Falls, SD formerly of Wolsey, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service was Friday, December 9th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with interment and military honors following at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Frederick was born February 9, 1920 at Wolsey to Carl and Louise (Kohlmeyer) Larsen. He was raised in the Wolsey area, graduating from Wolsey High School in 1938. He attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, graduating in 1942. He joined the US Navy, serving as a Lieutenant in the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. Fred married Shirley M. Hoar on September 9, 1944 in Washington, D.C. In 1946 they returned to Wolsey, where he was a dairy farmer. After retiring from the farm, Fred and Shirley moved to Marion to be closer to their family and later Sioux Falls. Fred was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey, Wolsey Lions Club, VFW, and the American Legion. Fred is survived his loving wife of 72 years, Shirley, Sioux Falls; children, David (Betty) Larsen, Rancho Cordova, CA, Gregory (Nancy) Larsen, Marion, Kent (Barbara) Larsen, Sioux Falls, Susan Larsen, Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Harold, Marvin, Luverne, Edward and one son; Frederick “Ted” Larsen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
