Iddings, 90, Dies in Maryland Frederick Tyson Iddings, 90, electrical engineer, died yesterday at Montgomery County General Hospital, Sandy Spring, Md., after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Iddings was born of Quaker ancestry at "Riverside," Ashtοn, Md., which had been the family home for four generations. Iddings, 90, Dies in Maryland Frederick Tyson Iddings, 90, electrical engineer, died yesterday at Montgomery County General Hospital, Sandy Spring, Md., after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Iddings was born of Quaker ancestry at "Riverside," Ashtοn, Md., which had been the family home for four generations. At 16, Mr. Iddings left home to work with the North Penn Railroad in Philadelphia. In 1882, he came to Washington as secretary of the Stabler Signal Co., organized by his uncle, James Stabler. The company failed in about a year and Mr. Iddings Joined the Bell Telephone Co. at Philadelphia. He was chief engineer of underground construction for 10 years. Afterward he was employed by the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. here. About 1900 he was made chief cable test man for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. of Baltimore City. He retired in 1930 at the age of 72 but since has served as a technical adviser on problems involving damage to underground electrical structures. Mr. Iddings was chairman of the Baltimore Electrolysis Committee until January when he resigned because of ill health and returned to "Riverside." He was a bachelor and a member of the Engineers Club of Baltimore. He is survived by five nieces and nephews, three of whom live in this area: Mrs. Leon Small of "Riverside"; Mrs. Walter Wheeler Cook, Silver Spring, and Llewellyn Iddings, Washington. Funeral services will be held at a 2 p.m. Friday at Warner Pumphrey's funeral home, Silver Spring. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery, Brinklow, Md.
