WHITEHEAD Frederick Whitehead, one of the pioneer residents of Hall county, who homesteaded abut six miles north of Wood River, passed away at about 6 o'clock yesterday morning at his home 892 West Eighth street in this city. He had been ailing for about a year but his condition was not serious until the last few days, death resulting from pneumonia. Mr. Whitehead was one of five brothers and would have been 71 years of age on his next birthday, March 18th. He came to Hall county in the year 1872, and his family followed the next year. Until 12 years ago he followed farming and then moved to the city to reside. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Alstot, two sons having preceded the father in death. Erwin Whitehead of Cairo is the only brother living. The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock from the residence Tuesday afternoon and then the remains will be taken to Wood River where interment will be made in the family burial ground. ***** Service in Company C, 32nd Wisconsin Infantry. He was discharged in June, 1865, and participated in the following battles: Tallahatchie, Holly Springs, Parker's Cross Roads, Colliersville, Monroe, Lafayette, Marion Station, Paducah, Decatur, Courtland, the siege of Atlanta, Jonesboro, Savannah, Salkehatchie, Orangeburg, Columbia, Cheraw, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Raleigh, and many other skirmishes.
