Description	:	Three photos showing a couple of special instruments--at least in our family they are special. The first image shows me (Fred Bohm III) and and my brother (Dwight Bohm) posing with the guitar and violin in question. The guitar once belonged to our dad (Fred Bohm, Jr.); he purchased the instrument for two dollars one 1938 night in the parking lot in front of the Venlo, North Dakota, dance hall. The guitar once belonged to our dad (Fred Bohm, Jr.); he purchased the instrument for two dollars one 1938 night in the parking lot in front of the Venlo, North Dakota, dance hall. Dwight is holding the violin that once belonged to our great grandfather, Walter Anson Hill. Grandpa Hill used to play this instrument in a band that performed in and around Enderlin, North Dakota, in the early 20th century. Both instruments have seen more than their share of life. By the mid 2000s, they were in such sad states that each required serious restoration. On a recent visit from Asheville, Dwight brought his violin to DeWitt, Michigan. This gave us an opportunity to play a few tunes together on these wonderful family heirlooms. The violin is more than 100 years old and dates originally from about 1900. The guitar, a Supertone Archtop steel-stringed job, was manufactured in 1935. The second photo (taken about 1917) is of Walter Hill posing with his band and holding the violin. The third (a 1939 image) is of Fred Bohm Jr., widely known in the Enderlin area as Tex Bohm. He is posing with the guitar beside the Bohm family house in the section of Enderlin known as "Little Moorhead." Incidentally, both instruments sound great and are fun to play. We had a lot of fun making music on them. — with Dwight Bohm.
