Description	:	DEATH OF FRED HOPPE Fred Daniel Hoppe was born on March 2, 1860 at Lena, Illinois and died at the home of his daughter, Mayme, at Bayard, Nebraska, on July 17, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 15 days. Read More	DEATH OF FRED HOPPE Fred Daniel Hoppe was born on March 2, 1860 at Lena, Illinois and died at the home of his daughter, Mayme, at Bayard, Nebraska, on July 17, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 15 days. He was the oldest in the family of 13 children, one brother, George, his father and mother preceding him in death, together with his own daughter, Delia. He came to Nebraska as a young man and located on a farm at Scribner, where he remained until 1915, when he moved to Creighton and farmed one mile northwest of town until he retired in 1924 and took up residence in the city. During these years he was very industrous and successful. He was a splendid neighbor with a big heart for his fellow citizens and a desire to help to the extent of his powers. He was an honest man, a loving husband and thoughful father. He was ever busy doing things and these latter years he has enjoyed working in his garden. His death marks the passing of a worthy citizen. On February 24, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Landon of Pleasant Valley, Nebraska. To this union, 4 children were born, three surviving him. Delia, his daughter, having passed away in 1918 during the epidemic of the "flu". He was baptized when a young man into the Lutheran church and in his living he revealed a true Christian character. For the past twelve years, Mr. Hoppe has not enjoyed very good health and for over a year was unable to get down town alone. However, he felt that he wanted to visit his daughter and went to Bayard, Nebraska with his wife and while visiting there the final sickness came, from which, after two weeks of severe pain and suffering, he entered into rest to await the resurrection morn. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife; one son, Fred of St. Louis, Mo., two daughters, Mayme of Bayard, Nebr. and Minnie of Creighton; four sisters and seven brothers; Mrs. Hattie Hudson, Walt, Frank, Mrs. Anna Neimeir and Mrs. Kate Keefer, all of Illinois; Charles of Carol Junction, Mo.; William of Paola, Kansas; Herman of Hooker, Oklahoma; Godfrey of Freeport, Illinois and Mrs. Evelyn Kellar of Brooklyn, Iowa; six grandchildren, Laura and Jeanette Diedrichsen; Delia Hoppe and Don; Genene and Laura Ellen Boll, together with a large number of neighbors and friends. "Life! We've been long together, Through pleasant and through cloudy weather, Tis hard to part when friends are dear. Perhaps 'twill cost a sigh, a tear. Then steal away; give little warning; Choose thine own time, Say not, "Good Night", but in some brighter clime Bid me "Good Morning". The remains were brought here on Saturday from Bayard, Nebr. and funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at one o'clock from the W.C. Hengstler & Son Chapel. Rev. William E. Wilson, pastor of the M.E. Church, was in charge. A great many friends were in attendance at the last rites, which attested to the high esteem he was held in by his every acquaintance. The body was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery. Tiedemann, Mr. Claus Tiedemann, Dodge; Mrs. Robert Wilmer, Fremont; Mrs. Rinehold Witt, Scribner; August Kamberg and family, Pierce; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hoppe, Lena, Ill.; Godfrey Hoppe, Freeport, Ill.; Mrs. Kate Keifer, Lena, Ill.; Mrs. Lyda Hoppe, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Piper, Woonsocket, S.D. To the bereaved widow and family, the sympathy of the entire community goes in this time of their grief.
