His birth record from the compilation of North American Family Histories - Massachusetts lists his DOB as August 12, 1830. Then, each of the federal censuses would indicate his year of birth to be about 1830, based on his age at the time of each census, as follows: 1850: Age 19 1860: Age 30 1870: Age 40 1880: Age 51 1900: Although it lists his birth date as August 1820, his age is listed as 69...the math doesn't work out! Someone, perhaps one of his children, had it in their mind that he was born in 1820, which is what they told the census enumerator in 1900 then later had carved on his headstone. But all of the records, including his birth record in Massachusetts, support a year of 1830. I would encourage you to change the date on his Find A Grave Memorial, then outline some of this evidence in support of the change.
